We invite the community to enjoy the wide variety of WCMS performances held throughout the year. WCMS faculty and students perform regularly in both formal and informal recitals. Thanks to generous support for community organizations and businesses, these concerts are free and open to the public. Please call the WCMS office if you would like more details on any of these events.

Open Mic at the Winchester Starbucks

Join us for our Open Mic Night from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Starbucks, 542 Main Street, Winchester.  Open Mic Nights occur the first Thursday of every month (except January, July and August) and we welcome performers, families and friends for this lively emceed, coffee house event!

Sign-ups for performers are at the door the night of the event or in advance or by calling WCMS (781-721-2950).  We're also on MeetUp.com!  Individual or small duo/trio performances are encouraged, but we welcome all ages, all instruments, and all types of music.  Bands are welcome but must be acoustic.

Fat Tuesday Blues Jam at WCMS Nichols Hall

The Fat Tuesday Blues Jam is made up of a growing community of serious hobbyist musicians and one simple concept: musical camaraderie. Our aim is to make jamming fun again by providing you with everything you need to just focus on playing:

--A state-of-the-art, professional performance space
--Gear:  guitar and bass amps, drums, a piano and a professional PA system (just bring your instrument*)
--A house band comprised of patient, supportive and experienced professional musicians
--A regular schedule: jams are held monthly
--A supportive environment w/no attitudes or egos allowed - just great players, cool tunes and a fun hang


For:        All levels of musicians (beginner to advanced)
When:   2nd Tuesday of every month, September-May (plus two summer dates in 2014)
Time:     7 - 9 pm**

Price:    $10 for participants, free for general audience members

Parent Education Seminar - Charting a Musical Path

Have you every wondered how to...
-find a music class that fits your child's age and interests?
-know when it's the right time to start private lessons?
-choose between private lessons or group instructions?
-help your child choose an instrument?
-use music to enhance your child's general education?
-know when your child can start singing or playing in an ensemble or band?

We have the answers!  Join the WCMS faculty to learn how to choose the best musical path for your child, particularly ages 3 to 11.  You'll be able to talk with faculty representing strings, piano, woodwinds, guitar, percussion, Suzuki piano/violin, early childhood music, Dalcroze Eurhythmics, voice & choral, brass, music therapy, and more.

Don't miss this once-a-year opportunity!

Saturday, October 18, 3:30pm - 5pm

FREE African Drumming Class for WCMS Students!

Come experience what makes other cultures move to the beat! Participants will learn hand drumming in conjunction with a social dance from West Africa. You will experience how the master drum “speaks” to the supporting drums in a typical “call and response” format. 

All WCMS  percussion, woodwind, and brass students are welcome. Free. Space limited to 12 participants.

Early Release Workshop - Musical Safari - For grades 3 - 5 !!

Turn an early release afternoon into the start of a new musical journey for your 3rd, 4th, or 5th grader!  With six musical stations to explore, students will enjoy hands-on introductions to a wide array of new instruments and possibilities:

Guitar
Percussion                         
Piano Strings Voice                                 
Woodwinds and brass  

Tuition for class: $40

Both experienced students and musical beginners will come away inspired from this afternoon of exploration, learning about instruments they may have been curious about, as well as ones they may never have seen.  Register now! Call 781.721.2950.

Broadway On Highland - An Open Performance Event for Singers!

If you love Broadway, come over to WCMS and sing your favorite Broadway hit or join the crowd during our sing-a-long numbers. All ages and ability levels are welcome! Singers from beginners to seasoned professionals are cordially invited to strut their stuff during this fun evening.

Solo, duo, trio, or family act? We're happy to include you. You don't need to be memorized. Just bring your sheet music (no lead sheets please) and a copy for our fabulous accompanist. (Please note that the piano music should be in the same key in which you plan to sing.)

Sign-ups for performers and run-throughs with the accompanist take place from 6:30-7:30 PM on the evening of the event, first come-first served.

Halloween Horribles Parade - Winchester Center

If you play:
Clarinet, Flute, Percussion, Saxophone, Trombone, Trumpet, Ukulele, or Guitar
Then join us for the Halloween Horribles Parade! 

Line up at 9:45AM behind the Winchester Public Library The parade steps off at 10AM and finishes at the Farmers Market on the Common.  

Sign up at the Winchester Community Music School office and pick up your music.

Celebrating the Music of the Beatles: The Studio Years From "Penny Lane to Abbey Road" Two shows!

The Beatles recorded some of the finest and most recognizable music of the rock era. To celebrate the legacy of the Beatles’ studio recordings, a diverse group of WCMS faculty and student performers – from rock guitarists to string players – will perform a concert of selected Beatles works under the musical direction of Tad Hitchcock. 

Come relive the era of Eleanor Rigby, Yesterday, Got to Get You Into My Life, and more.
