String Sinfonietta Auditions - Reserve your audition spot today!

WCMS’s new String Sinfonietta is ideal for intermediate level string players who are looking for an orchestral experience to supplement their school orchestra or string program. This ensemble has a nurturing environment to encourage students to achieve new levels in their playing while connecting musical peers from Winchester and the surrounding towns such as Medford, Stoneham, Woburn, Arlington, Burlington, Melrose, Wakefield, Reading, and beyond. Participants will perform a range of string orchestra repertoire.  Concerts for family and friends are held in January and June, along with one outreach performance for the community in the spring.

Guidelines for Entrance: Students should be in the process of developing a beautiful sound, including comfortable use of vibrato, first through third positions, and fundamental bow strokes with varied articulations.  Ideally, students should be playing repertoire equivalent to Suzuki Book 4 or ASTA grades 2-3.

Conductor:  Vartan Aghababian

Day & Time:  Saturdays, 1:00-2:30 PM, starting on September 20  (13 sessions per semester plus the concert)

Tuition:  $385 per semester; 10% discount for WCMS private lesson students

Tim Gartland Faculty Recital & CD Release!

The Boston Globe compared Gartland’s “veteran vocals and precision harp work” to the style of “the great bluesman Charles Musselwhite” on his 2011 release ‘Looking Into The Sun.’   Charles Sawyer, author of ‘The Arrival of B.B. King,’ says, “Tim is that rare combination of inspired instrumentalist, unique vocal stylist, and gifted songwriter. The fraternity of artists who can claim that hat trick is a select group and when you narrow it down to harp players/vocalists/composers it comes down to four living artists: James Harman, Mark Hummel, Rick Estrin, and, now, Tim Gartland.”

Free and Open to the Public.  Nichols Performance Hall.
