Program Features (Three Levels)
- Music Reader Presto! (Ages 7-10) This course is for the younger beginner and provides games that focus on rhythm, reading, and analyzing skills designed to help students get over the tough hurdle of learning to read music.
- Collaborative Piano (Ages 9-18) 4-hands, 6-hands, the more the merrier! This course is geared toward later beginners and intermediate students and provides an opportunity for duet playing, ensembles, and a "hands-on" music theory class designed to help students learn and practice their intervals, scales, and chords.
- The Well-Rounded Pianist (Ages 11-18) This course is designed for intermediate to advanced pianists and provides classes on musical style, the history of the piano, special exercises to promote body awareness, applied keyboard techniques/improvisation, and higher level music theory.
- Master Class Track (Ages 11-18) This is an optional track for the Well-Rounded Pianist participants. It offers several performance master classes during the course of the Festival in which participants will prepare one or two pieces for the final concert.
No audition required to participate. Simply register for the program. All participants must submit a teacher recommendation from their private piano teacher. This can be done at time of registration or after registration. Copies of the recommendation form are available at WCMS or
Download the Teacher Recommendation Form.
All participants should prepare a "signature piece" to work with throughout the program. Please choose and practice this piece in advance with your private teacher so that it is ready for performance at the start of the program. The Program Director will arrange a time to meet with each participant prior to the start of the program to hear the "signature piece" and assess each student's level to assign duet music.
Tuition: $300 (plus a $10 summer registration fee, waived for currently enrolled WCMS students)
Master Class Track: additional $125
