An Intensive Two-Week Music Program for Intermediate to Advanced String Players

Please note that Festival for Strings will not be offered this summer (2011).  We encourage you to consider the offerings of our Summer Chamber Music Festival as an alternative program. 

A letter from Festival Director, Marta Zurad (January 2011)

Dear Summer Festival of String participants and families,

It has been a wonderful 12 years of terrific collaboration between students, faculty, WCMS, Winchester Rotary, Burlington Mall, Winchester Library, Mahoney's, the Griffin Museum, etc.

Many of you have been participants in the program for many years.  It was a great pleasure to work with you all and see your progress.

It is difficult to convey this news, but we will not be running the Festival for Strings this summer.

As many of you know, I am lucky to have many exciting projects going in my life, and it was simply not possible for me to give everything necessary to ensure another successful season.

We are not stopping the Festival because something was wrong. Everything, as a matter of fact, was right. I am especially grateful to Laurie Russell, the Director of WCMS, for all her support. I'm also grateful to the dedicated faculty, and all the people whose efforts and participation helped the Festival to be such a success.

We are ending on a very high note, with John Williams' Star Wars Trilogy ringing in our ears.

I would like to wish all of you all the best, and I hope you will plan on making music during the summer. 

There are many wonderful programs (even some with ping pong!) in the area.

One more time, thank you to everyone. I will miss you.
