The Underground Summer Session (Ages 8-18)

New for 2017 -- two sessions!

Summer Underground: Rock 101  (Ages 8-12)

There is no more gratifying musical experience than playing in a band, and during the week of June 26 your child will have that very opportunity! Underground faculty member Mike Verge will assemble and coach a group of musicians ages 8-12 and explore the inner workings/dynamics of playing as a unit, improvisation, and songwriting. This band isn't restricted to traditional rock instrumentation. All instruments (brass, strings, and horn) are encouraged! The week will wrap up with a live performance by the band at the Winchester Farmers Market on Saturday, July 1.

Summer Underground: The Art of Recording  (Ages 13-18)

Want to know what it’s REALLY like to be in the recording studio? Work with a producer? Experiment with tone and texture? Experience the Red Light Fever first hand? Well that’s exactly what your son or daughter will do at the Summer Underground’s first ever Art of Recording clinic.

The “session band” of musicians (ages 13–18) will go into the WCMS Recording Studio with veteran engineer Matt Beaudoin and producer Mike Verge to record an original song. The group will also work on arrangements, nailing a perfect rhythm track, layering, overdubs, harmony vocals, and production technique. The clinic is an intensive 2-day session on Thursday and Friday, June 6 and 7 from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm.

Audition: An audition is required for the Art of Recording session; please contact Mike Verge to schedule.
