Broadway on Highland is a wonderful showcase for our voice students and a delightful evening for all! \n\nPerformers should arrive at 6:30 PM on the day of the event to run through their piece once with an accompanist.\n \nGuidelines for Performers: \n\nYou don’t need to be memorized\, but your selection should be well-prepared.\nBring your sheet music in a binder (no loose sheets\, lead or lyric sheets).\nBring an additional copy of your music for the accompanist which is complete\, copied back-to-back\, and in the key in which you plan to sing. It must be three-hole-punched and binder-ready before you arrive to sign up for your run-through time. No a cappella renditions are permitted.\nFamily-friendly lyrics and casual dress—no costumes or props\, please!\nPerformers should arrive at 6:30 PM on the day of the event to run through their piece once with an accompanist. DESCRIPTION:“Let’s Make Arrangements”\nPlease join us for the first Faculty Concert of 2024-2025\, featuring the Sempervirens Ensemble. Four virtuoso recorder players (Heloise Degrugillier\, Dan Meyers\, Emily O’Brien\, and Roy Sansom) will present a program which comprises music from the 14th century to this year. \nWorks will include Baroque keyboard pieces\, a medieval Estampie\, one of Ligeti’s Bagatelles for Wind Quintet\, the scherzo from Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream\, a short piano prelude by Prokofiev\, and more. The members of the ensemble felt they simply had to create arrangements to play these compelling pieces. \nFree admission. SUMMARY:Sight-Reading Superstars: Brass & Woodwind Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Would you like to improve your sight-reading ability? For students who are preparing for auditions\, sight-reading is often the most challenging part of the process. In this 90-minute session\, oboe teaching artist Kyoko Hida-Battaglia will work with students on sight-reading technique. We will practice sight-reading rhythm patterns without instruments\, then work on reading examples similar to those you might encounter in a live audition. \nAll woodwind and brass students from sixth grade through adults are welcome. Please bring your instrument and the etude book you are using in your lessons. Free for WCMS students; $10 for the general public. \nRegistration is now closed.\n \n

DESCRIPTION:Please note: Performing at Broadway On Highland is currently open to WCMS singers\, staff\, and their students only. Their invited guests are warmly welcomed to join the audience.\n \nCome support our talented singers and join in with the audience for the sing-along numbers. Broadway On Highland is a wonderful showcase for our voice students and a delightful evening for all! See links below for the audience sing-along numbers. \n\nPerformers should arrive at 6:30 PM on the day of the event to run through their piece once with an accompanist.\n \nGuidelines for Performers: \n\nYou don’t need to be memorized\, but your selection should be well-prepared.\nBring your sheet music in a binder (no loose sheets\, lead or lyric sheets).\nBring an additional copy of your music for the accompanist which is complete\, copied back-to-back\, and in the key in which you plan to sing. It must be three-hole-punched and binder-ready before you arrive to sign up for your run-through time. No a cappella renditions are permitted.\nFamily-friendly lyrics and casual dress—no costumes or props\, please!\nPerformers should arrive at 6:30 PM on the day of the event to run through their piece once with an accompanist. DESCRIPTION:Are you interested in trying Steel Drums (also known as Steel Pans)? \nJoin WCMS’s Laurie Russell and Sara McCabe for a fun and relaxed workshop at the Winchester Recreation Department. You’ll learn about the history of these incredible instruments from Trinidad and Tobago\, receive instruction on how to play\, and learn a new song together each session. You can attend any workshop or join all three. SUMMARY:Voice Department Master Class for Youth
DESCRIPTION:Voice Master Class with Maggie Finnegan: “How to FIRST Approach a New Song or Aria”\nIn this master class\, guest clinician and Grammy-nominated soprano Maggie Finnegan will work with participants on how to prepare a new classical or Broadway piece for performance\, from analyzing the subtext and emotional state of the character\, to physical performance tips such as eye focus. Within this overall theme\, each participant will receive advice tailored to their individual piece and performance. Each master class will also feature a Q&A session with Maggie. \n\nYouth session:  2:00–3:15 PM\nAdult session:  3:30–4:45 PM\n\nOpen and free of charge to all WCMS voice students. All are invited to attend as part of the audience; participation slots will be chosen by a lottery.  If you would like to sing during the master class\, speak to your WCMS teacher by September 17. \nHosted by Norina Rowen\, Voice Department chair.
