DESCRIPTION:Want to know what music classes are like at Winchester Community Music School? Free demos of many classes are being offered during the week of September 3–7. Come try a class and meet the teachers before fall semester begins on September 9. There’s something for all ages! \nDemo Class Schedule & Sign-Up \nPlus\, you can bring the whole family to our annual MusicFest Open House on Sunday\, September 8\, 2:00–4:00 PM. This free event features meet-the-instrument sessions\, live demos\, a scavenger hunt with prizes\, and more! \nIf you wish to enroll in a class after attending a demo\, please be sure to do so at least 48 hours prior to the following week’s class.  Class size is limited and registration is on a first-come\, first-serve basis. DESCRIPTION:Voice Master Class with Maggie Finnegan: “How to FIRST Approach a New Song or Aria”\nIn this master class\, guest clinician and Grammy-nominated soprano Maggie Finnegan will work with participants on how to prepare a new classical or Broadway piece for performance\, from analyzing the subtext and emotional state of the character\, to physical performance tips such as eye focus. DESCRIPTION:Would you like to improve your sight-reading ability? For students who are preparing for auditions\, sight-reading is often the most challenging part of the process. In this 90-minute session\, oboe teaching artist Kyoko Hida-Battaglia will work with students on sight-reading technique. SUMMARY:Faculty Concert - The Sempervirens Ensemble
DESCRIPTION:“Let’s Make Arrangements”\nPlease join us for the first Faculty Concert of 2024-2025\, featuring the Sempervirens Ensemble. Four virtuoso recorder players (Heloise Degrugillier\, Dan Meyers\, Emily O’Brien\, and Roy Sansom) will present a program which comprises music from the 14th century to this year. \nWorks will include Baroque keyboard pieces\, a medieval Estampie\, one of Ligeti’s Bagatelles for Wind Quintet\, the scherzo from Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream\, a short piano prelude by Prokofiev\, and more. The members of the ensemble felt they simply had to create arrangements to play these compelling pieces. \nFree admission. Held in-person at WCMS and also streamed live on our YouTube channel and Facebook page. \n

DESCRIPTION:Are you interested in trying Steel Drums (also known as Steel Pans)? \nJoin WCMS’s Laurie Russell and Sara McCabe for a fun and relaxed workshop at the Winchester Recreation Department. You’ll learn about the history of these incredible instruments from Trinidad and Tobago\, receive instruction on how to play\, and learn a new song together each session. You can attend any workshop or join all three.
