DESCRIPTION:For grades 9 through Adult. \nThis all-levels class will be a hybrid of lecture\, movement\, and breathwork. \nThe movement focus will be on finding more ease in the body and a more comfortable postural alignment using traditional vinyasa sun salutations along with prehab movements specific to musicians (focusing on the fingers/wrists/forearms/shoulders\, as well as some drills focused to target all the sitting we find ourselves doing in long rehearsals). \nBreathwork will be introduced as a way of feeling the beat and the phrasing in the body while strengthening the diaphragm as well as learning ways of breathing that can calm the mind and nervous system before a performance. \nInstructor: Lynn Rubin \nFree for WCMS students / $15 for general public \n  \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Violinist and violist Laura Bossert will lead a performance master class for select WCMS students on enhancing artistic expression in their playing. \nA Silver Medalist in the Henryk Szeryng International Violin Competition\,  Bossert is highly sought after as both a performer and a music educator. She has appeared in collaboration with Elmar Oliveira\, Joseph Silverstein\, and others as well as with ensembles including the Muir\, Shanghai\, Invoke\, Hausmann & Lark String Quartets. This season\, she will perform the world premiere of Roberta Sierra’s Near to the End as a guest artist with the Society of New Music (Syracuse\, NY). Bossert is also a longtime faculty member at Wellesley College and the summer Castleman Quartet Program\, as well as Director of the LyricaFest Music Festival. DESCRIPTION:Do you want to improve your skill and confidence in improvisation\, including across changing or uncommon time signatures? Very often\, challenges with improvisation don’t come from a lack of skill\, but rather from being tied to traditional rhythm patterns that we learned early on\, but may not translate well to the genre or meter that you’re playing in now. \nThis workshop is for any musician (teens and adults\, age 14+)  who wants to unlock new ways of understanding rhythm in order to improve their comfort and skill in improvisation.
