DESCRIPTION:Evaluation Dates:  \n\nSaturday\, 4/27\, 1:00 – 5:30 pm\nSunday\, 4/28\, 9:00 am – 5:30 pm\n\nWCMS Piano Evaluations are a springtime performance opportunity for dedicated students of WCMS faculty. They are only open to students of WCMS teachers by recommendation. \nHow do they work? \nStudents prepare a program to perform for a panel of two teaching artists and receive detailed\, constructive feedback. The student’s teacher determines the repertoire and scale requirements for their evaluation. These evaluations are designed to encourage growth and artistic expression for students of all ages. \nDetails: \n\nRegistration is required to reserve a spot. Program repertoire is not required for registration\, and can be determined by the teacher in the spring.\n\nDecember 22:  Registration deadline for priority scheduling. If space is limited\, students who register before Dec. 22 will be assured a performance time. Be sure to reserve all possible times on your calendar until you have been assigned a performance time on February 11.\nFebruary 5:  Final registration deadline.  Registration is now closed; the event is full. No schedule change requests or refunds will be permitted after February 5.\n\n\n\n\nFee: $60\n\nWhat to perform: \n\nPrepare a program of two pieces and two scales. Student’s teacher will determine repertoire\, scale parameters (choice of keys and number of octaves)\, and memorization requirement. Maximum length = 15 minutes. If the program is longer\, the teaching artists will shorten the program by hearing excerpts of the prepared material.\n\nWhat to expect: \n\nEvaluations are private. Parents\, other students\, and teachers wait outside the evaluation room during the performance.\nTeaching artists do not teach during the performances. Feedback is provided through the evaluation form.\nStudents participate anonymously. Teaching artists do not know the student’s name or teacher.\nAll participants and families will follow WCMS COVID safety protocols\nPerformances will be in-person. DESCRIPTION:Come enjoy two exquisite and romantic chamber pieces performed by a woodwind quintet with piano\, a rare combination in chamber music. The first half of the program will consist of a beautiful wind chamber piece by Mozart\, Quintet for Winds and Piano in E flat major\, K452. The second half will feature Beethoven’s Quintet for Piano and Winds in E-flat Major\, Op. 16. Faculty performers and special guests will include Kyoko Hida-Battaglia\, oboe; Glenn Dickson\, clarinet; Dr. Jacky Ho-Yin Li\, French horn; Sally Merriman\, bassoon; and Dr. Sarah Tocco\, piano. \n\nFree admission. The program will be held in-person at WCMS and also streamed live on our YouTube and Facebook pages.

DESCRIPTION:An Open Performance Event for Singers with Host\, Norina Rowen \nIf you love Broadway\, come over to WCMS and sing your favorite Broadway hit or join the crowd during our sing-along numbers. All ages and ability levels are welcome! Singers from beginners to seasoned professionals are cordially invited to strut their stuff during this fun event. Solo\, duo\, trio\, or family act? We’re happy to include you. \nPerformers should arrive at 6:30 PM on the day of the event to run through their piece once with an accompanist.\n \nGuidelines for Performers: \n\nYou don’t need to be memorized\, but your selection should be well-prepared.\nBring your sheet music (no lead or lyric sheets) and a hole-punched\, binder-ready copy for one of our accompanists. Your piano music must be in the key in which you plan to sing. No a cappella renditions.\nFamily-friendly lyrics and casual dress—no costumes\, please!\nPerformers should arrive at 6:30 PM on the day of the event to run through their piece once with an accompanist. Mark Fish’s score captures the fury of the bull ring\, the frenzy of the crowd\, and – of course – the tranquility of Ferdinand’s favorite cork tree. Performed with a slide show of Robert Lawson’s beloved illustrations\, Ferdinand the Bull is a delightful musical event. \nSolar Winds’ family concerts are an ideal way to introduce children to the joy and excitement of live classical performances. These festive programs combine music\, story telling\, and audience participation in a fun and informal concert setting. \n$5 General Admission. Tickets are available online and in-person at WCMS. DESCRIPTION:This workshop is full. Participants in this workshop will learn about the art of improvisation from trombonist Dan Fox. Dan is the director of the Arlington Jazz Festival and has had a prolific\, international performing career in modern and traditional jazz as well as big band. Dan will share techniques to help participants develop their own improvisation skills and artistry. \nFree for WCMS students/$15 for the general public.
