Adult Learner Musical Soiree

Tuesday, November 12, 2019
7:00 - 8:30 pm

"The ABC's—or Why We Say 'Anything But Country'"

Our annual fall musical soirée is an event exclusively for our WCMS adult learners. Join us for a special presentation by Dr. Joel Schwindt, Professor of Music at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee. Have you ever wondered why—when asked what types of music we listen to—we so often answer "anything but country"? Dr. Schwindt will help us answer that question, drawing from the history of the music recording industry, American class distinctions and rivalry, modern social media, and even his own life growing up in a classical music-loving family in a small town in Kansas.

Afterward, those who wish to can share a short musical piece. Eight performing slots are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please bring an appetizer or dessert to share; beverages will be provided. Free for enrolled WCMS students. RSVP by phone, email, or at the front office by Tuesday, November 5.
