Would you like to understand rhythm better? Come learn how to comprehend complicated rhythm patterns and time signatures with confidence and ease! In this 90 minute multi-level workshop, led by WCMS percussion faculty Sylvie Zakarian, you will explore how rhythm is essential to all musical pieces and styles.

  • Unveil the "mystery" of understanding rhythmic patterns
  • Focus on difficult time signatures and subdivisions in building a broader rhythm vocabulary
  • Learn how musicians develop their sense of rhythm and timing
  • Talk about phrasing and "feel" of a variety of rhythms and styles
  • Perform a rhythm-only composition as a group to illustrate our newly learned skills

The workshop is open to everyone (instrumentalists and vocalists) with at least two years of experience studying music and a basic understanding of note values and time signatures. No previous drumming experience is necessary! Register by November 15. Free for WCMS students; $10 for public. For more information or to register, call 781-721-2950, emal us, or stop by the front office.
