Group Flute Class (Grades 2-3)
The flute is a wonderful instrument for young students to learn, and this new group class will make the process social and fun! WCMS will help arrange the rental of a flute with a curved headjoint, which makes the flute easier for children to hold. The class will cover basic flute technique, starting with the fundamentals of posture, correct breathing control, tone production, anatomy of the flute, and how to care for the instrument. We will also include general musicality—rhythmic exercises, musical terms, and note reading. Students will receive one-on-one attention in class while also learning how to play as a group. Students will learn how to practice, and learn why practice is so important to progress.
By the end of the semester, students will have a strong basic foundation in the flute, will be able to play many simple songs, and will present an informal recital for family and friends. After taking this class, students will be well prepared to begin individual flute lessons. For students in grades 2-3 as of 9/1/2018. Maximum 6 students.
