Haydn, The Symphonist
October 8, 15, 22, and 29
Franz Josef Haydn composed in every genre, not the least of which was the symphony. He composed over 100 symphonies (104, to be exact) and that number tends to overwhelm most musicologists, let alone the average citizen (regardless of cultural literacy). Come experience four of these 104 masterworks and start to enjoy the brilliance and beauty of this composer's work at its finest.

The Joy of Collaboration: Collaborative Piano Literature
November 5, 12, 19, and 26
Join us as we explore works of chamber music that include piano as part of their instrumentation. The role of the piano in chamber music has long been identified by the term "accompanist," but is now defined more correctly as "collaborative." The literature of collaborative piano ranges widely and is a delight to explore. Come hear how varied and compelling piano chamber music can be!

Miles Davis: Bebop to Jazz Rock
March 3, 10, 17, and 24
This class will survey four periods of jazz icon Miles Davis' illustrious and influential career. Explore the early years, his first Quintet with John Coltrane, the second Quintet with Herbie Hancock, and Mile's invention of jazz rock. This is a great survey class for those who want to become more acquainted with this jazz legend, as well as for those who are looking for a deeper understanding of Mile's influence in the world of jazz.

Modernism Explored
April 7, 14, 28, and May 5 (no class on April 21)
The term "modern" has applied to music for over 100 years and refers only generally to many types of music in the 20th and 21st centuries. Most often, the word "modern" (or the term "post-tonal") acts as a deterrent to those who are unfamiliar with the sounds, structures, stories, and intentions behind this music. Come experience a carefully curated tour of modernism in music that is sure to leave you wanting more.
