New!  Duke Ellington
This class will survey jazz legend Duke Ellington's illustrious and influential career which spanned more than six decades. This is a great class for those who want to become more acquainted with the work of this iconic composer, pianiast, and jazz orchestra leader, as well as for those who are looking for a deeper understanding of Ellington's influence in the world of jazz. Explore the early years of his jazz orchestra; his collaborations with Billy Strayhorn, John Coltrane, Louis Armstrong, and Charles Mingus; his pivotal appearance at the Newport Jazz Festival in 1956; and his prolific work that continued through the 1960s and early 1970s.
