Guitar Mini-Classes (for Teens & Adults)

Online offering. Join guitar faculty member Jim Doran for 4-week classes on Wednesday evenings: Music Theory for Guitar Players and Jazz Guitar Class.

Music Theory for Guitar Players (Ages 13 - Adult)

This group class is designed to help guitar players better understand the fretboard, learn how to build chords, and be able to play in any key. By applying what we learn directly to the guitar, you will learn how to visualize major and minor scales, understand intervals, and learn how to use chord inversions. You do not need to read music notation for this class. Participants must have some prior playing experience.

The class will be conducted live on the Zoom platform. Space is limited to 8 students.

Instructor:  Jim Doran

Tuition: $100 for 4-week session

Jazz Guitar Class (Ages 13 to Adult)

This group class is a quick introduction to playing jazz guitar. Using one jazz standard at a time, we'll learn how to play chords and melody, as well as how to put a chord melody together. We will use easy-to-read chord melody charts, along with graphs and tablature versions, so you don't need to worry about being a great sight reader. This is also a great refresher class if you haven't played jazz in a while and would like to build your skills to join an ensemble. Participants must have some prior playing experience.

The class will be conducted live on the Zoom platform. Space is limited to 8 students.
