Evaluation Dates:

  • Saturday, April 10, 12:30 – 6:30 PM
  • Sunday, April 11, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM

WCMS Piano Evaluations are a springtime performance opportunity for dedicated students of WCMS faculty. They are designed to encourage growth and artistic expression for students of all ages. Evaluations are open to students of WCMS teachers, and your private teacher must recommend participation.

How do they work?

Students perform for two talented judges, who provide detailed written feedback on the students’ performance. Teachers determine what repertoire the student performs, and which track—Performance or Awards—the student signs up for. The Performance Track (noncompetitive) is for all ages with memorization encouraged, while the Awards Track (competitive) is for students age 10 and up with memorization required. Awards include Gold, Silver, Bronze and Honorable Mention, and special performance opportunities for select students.

Details:

  • Registration: required to reserve a spot. Repertoire can be decided after registration.
    • Dec. 29, 2026: Registration deadline for WCMS students. After Dec. 29 the registration will be opened to students from other schools.
    • Jan 31, 2027: Final registration deadline.
    • Feb. 7, 2027: Latest date that the performance schedule is created and shared. No schedule change requests or refunds offered after the schedule is published.
  • Evaluation Dates for Performance track: Saturday, 4/10/27 from 12:30 pm-6:30 pm and Sunday, 4/11/27 from 9:00 am-6:00 pm.
  • Evaluation Date for Awards Track: Sunday, 4/11/27 from 9:00 am-6:00 pm.
  • Tuition: $85

What to perform:

  • Prepare a program of two pieces and two scales. Student’s teacher will determine repertoire, scale parameters (choice of keys, number of octaves, speed, etc.), and memorization requirement. Maximum length = 15 minutes. If the program is longer, the adjudicators will shorten the program by hearing excerpts of the prepared material.

What to expect:

  • Evaluations are private. Parents, other students, and teachers wait outside the evaluation room during the performance.
  • Performances will be in-person. No online streaming or pre-recorded options, barring a change in the interests of public health/safety.
  • Contact Barbara Lieurance at pianoeval@winchestermusic.org with questions.

Register Online

As part of the registration form, you will be asked which blocks of time you are available on April 10 and April 11.
