Woodwinds, Brass & Percussion Department Information

As a student in the WBP department at WCMS, there are numerous opportunities to participate in recitals, workshops, and special events. In addition to the department events listed below, there are additional events open to all WCMS students as well as events for Adult Learners (see our event calendar for more details). WCMS offers private lessons; a Percussion Ensemble and Woodwind & Brass Ensembles; and a number of other ensembles and bands that welcome a wide range of instruments and ages.

Sight-Reading Mastery! WBP Department Workshop

• Led by WCMS teaching artist Dan Teager
• Open to all woodwind, brass, and percussion students from Grade 7 through Adult Learner
• Free for WCMS students; $15 for general public

MMEA Senior Districts Mock Audition Workshop 
Friday, November 6, 2026
4:00 – 6:00 PM 

• Open to all singers and instrumentalists, grades 9-12 who are auditioning for Senior Districts 
• $30 per participant; register by November 2

WBP Young Performers’ Recital

1:00 – 2:30 PM

• Participation by teacher nomination (deadline: October 25)
• For students through grade 8
• Performer call time: 12:30 PM
• Performer dress code: Semi-formal, “Sunday best” 

WBP Department Percussion Master Class

• Special guest Michael Williams 
• Free for WCMS students; $15 for general public 
• Open to all, but topic will be percussion specific 

MMEA Junior Districts Mock Audition Workshop

• Open to all singers and instrumentalists, grades 6-9 who are auditioning for Junior Districts 
• $30 per participant; register by January 18

WBP “Beat of Life” Percussion Concert

• Will be live streamed
• Unique annual concert featuring our percussion department students
• Hosted by WCMS teaching artist Sylvie Zakarian
