Guitar & Contemporary Music Department Information

Whether you’re looking for guitar or bass guitar lessons, or want to play a bluegrass instrument or join a great band or ensemble, WCMS has a number of offerings in rock, jazz, and bluegrass.

In addition to the events listed below, there are additional performance opportunities and workshops open to all WCMS students as well as events for Adult Learners. See our event calendar for more details.

Event Guidelines for 2025-2026 School Year

Guitar Workshop: Songwriting with Rachel Sumner
Saturday, October 25
3:00 – 4:30 PM

  • Guest Presenter: Singer/Songwriter Rachel Sumner
  • Open to all guitar students grade 9 through adult
  • Free for WCMS students; $15 for general public

MMEA Senior Districts Mock Audition Workshop 
Saturday, November 1 
3:00 – 4:30 PM 

  • Open to all singers and instrumentalists, grades 9-12 who are auditioning for Senior Districts 
  • $30 per participant; register by October 27

Bluegrass/Americana Jam
Saturday, November 8
3:00 – 4:30 PM

  • Hosted by the WCMS Bluegrass Ensemble
  • Open to all ages (participants should be able to play simple chords in time)
  • Free admission; advance registration required

MMEA Junior Districts Mock Audition Workshop 
Friday, January 16 
6:15 – 7:45 PM 

  • Open to all singers and instrumentalists, grades 6-9 who are auditioning for Junior Districts 
  • $30 per participant; register by January 12

Guitar Department Workshop
Saturday, March 14
3:00 – 4:30 PM


Spring Jazz Jam
