Summer Music in Motion

Summer 2026: The Elements

Monday, July 27 – Friday, July 31

Summer Music in Motion (Ages 7-9)

Summer Music & Motion: The Elements invites children to explore the power of music through the body, voice, and percussion. Over five mornings, students embody the four classical elements—Earth, Water, Air, and Fire—each day developing a unique musical quality through movement, rhythm, sound, and art.

Rooted in the Dalcroze Eurhythmics tradition, this program transforms musical understanding into a fully embodied experience, where every step, gesture, and rhythm becomes part of the music. Children move, sing, and play percussion instruments, learning to listen deeply to each other and respond intuitively in ensemble performance.

By the end of the week, participants will able to:

  • Embody beat, rhythm phrasing, and dynamics
  • Respond to music in movement
  • Improvise vocally, on percussion instruments, and in movement
  • Express percussion texture
  • Perform movement skills as an ensemble
  • Associate the visual arts and music
