Piano Department Information

As a piano student at WCMS, there are numerous opportunities to participate in recitals, workshops, and special events. In addition to the Piano Department events listed below, there are additional events open to all WCMS students as well as events for Adult Learners (see our event calendar for more details). WCMS offers private piano lessons (ages 5+), a Suzuki Piano program (ages 4-1/2+), and a number of ensembles and bands that welcome piano and keyboard players of all ages.

Piano Department Field Trip to M. Steinert & Sons
Saturday, October 25, 2025
4:30 PM

  • This event will take place at the M. Steinert & Sons showroom in Newton, MA, 1069 Washington Street
  • Learn about the new Spirio player piano
  • Sign up online
  • For adults and children 11+ accompanied by an adult

MMEA Senior Districts Mock Audition Workshop 
Saturday, November 1, 2025
3:00 – 4:30 PM 

  • Open to all singers and instrumentalists, grades 9-12 who are auditioning for Senior Districts 
  • $30 per participant; register by October 27

Young Pianists’ Recital
Friday, December 5, 2025
5:00 PM call time | 6:00 PM concert

  • Signup Process: By teacher nomination (deadline: October 25). Nominated students will receive a questionnaire to be completed a week from the recital date.
  • Ages: 6-10
  • Requirements: 1 or 2 repertoire pieces (max 5 minutes), polished playing, memorization encouraged but not required.
  • Dress Code: Concert attire (dresses, dress shirts and pants, dress shoes—NO jeans, gym pants, or sneakers).

MMEA Junior Districts Mock Audition Workshop 
Friday, January 16, 2026
6:15 – 7:45 PM 

  • Open to all singers and instrumentalists, grades 6-9 who are auditioning for Junior Districts 
  • $30 per participant; register by January 12

Piano Department Adult Learner Workshop
Wednesday, January 21, 2026
7:00–8:30 PM

  • Guest Artist: Linda Jiorle-Nagy
  • Signup Process: Online registration on a first-come, first-served basis
  • Number of Participants: Maximum 4 performers
  • Repertoire: One polished piece, maximum 8 minutes in length. All participants should bring their own copy of their music to the workshop, and submit one copy to the front office at least two weeks before the workshop date.

Piano Department Master Class
Saturday, March 7, 2026
3:30 PM

  • Guest Presenter: Patrick Elisha-Sanmiguel
  • Dress Code: Concert attire (dresses, dress shirts and pants, dress shoes—NO jeans, gym pants, or sneakers).
  • Signup Process: By teacher nomination; speak with your private lesson teacher if you’d like to participate
  • Ages: 10-18

Junior Pianists’ Recital
Sunday, March 22, 2026
2:00 PM workshop | 3:00 PM recital
Participant call time: 1:30 PM

  • This event will take place at the M. Steinert & Sons showroom in Newton, MA, 1069 Washington Street
  • Signup Process: By teacher nomination. Nominated students will receive a questionnaire to be completed 1 week prior to the recital.
  • Ages: 11-14
  • Requirements: 1 or 2 repertoire pieces (7 minutes max), polished playing, memorization encouraged but not required.
  • Dress Code: Concert attire (dresses, dress shirts and pants, dress shoes—NO jeans, gym pants, or sneakers).

Spring Piano Evaluations
Saturday-Sunday, April 11-12, 2026

  • Participants: WCMS or non-WCMS students who are taking lessons with a WCMS faculty member.
  • Signup Process: Sign up online upon teacher’s approval.
  • Priority Deadline (for WCMS students only): December 20, 2025
  • Final Deadline (both enrolled WCMS students and general public): January 31, 2026
  • Call Time: The assigned time will be communicated to each student a few weeks in advance.

Piano Honors Concerts
Saturday, May 30, 2026
4:30 PM and 6:00 PM

  • Signup Process: By teacher nomination. All nominated participants will receive a questionnaire to fill out which must be completed at least one week prior to the concert.
  • Ages: 10-18
  • Requirements: 1 or 2 repertoire pieces (8 minutes max), memorization required, polished playing.
  • Dress Code: Concert attire (dresses, dress shirts and pants, dress shoes—NO jeans, gym pants, or sneakers).
  • Call Time: One hour prior of the start time of the concert. Doors will open 5 min before the concert starts.
